Barack Obama faces 30 death threats a day, stretching US Secret Service
- Image via Wikipedia
In a way this story from The Telegraph is expected, there are so many twisted right wing and extremist nutters in the USA who having easily acquired arms and hate are keen to assassinate President Obama. I only hope that the Secret Service remains vigilant and can deal with threats effectively and quickly.
By Toby Harnden in Washington, THE TELEGRAPH: “US President Barack Obama is the target of more than 30 potential death threats a day and is being protected by an increasingly over-stretched and under-resourced Secret Service, according to a new book.
Since Mr Obama took office, the rate of threats against the president has increased 400 per cent from the 3,000 a year or so under President George W. Bush, according to Ronald Kessler, author of In the President’s Secret Service.
Some threats to Mr Obama, whose Secret Service codename is Renegade, have been publicised, including an alleged plot by white supremacists in Tennessee late last year to rob a gun store, shoot 88 black people, decapitate another 14 and then assassinate the first black president in American history…”
Obama hails Apollo 11 astronauts
I recall the excitement of 20 July 1969; the success of the Apollo project that began with the landing of two of the Apollo 11 crew on the surface of the Moon was a significant scientific achievement. Neil Armstrong and his colleagues, his fellow astronauts are right all efforts should now focuas on a permament colony on Mars. The establishment of a scientific community on Mars would be expensive but it would be in itself a vital next step. We need to keep up bold new goals in space exploration. I hope that President Obama will approve extra funding to NASA for this goal.

Marking the 40th anniversary of the event, he said Americans continued to draw inspiration from Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins.
“I think that all of us recall the moment in which mankind finally was untethered from this planet,” he added…”
Earlier, Mr Aldrin and Mr Collins called for renewed efforts to send a manned mission to Mars.

Obama praise for Iran’s Mousavi
- Image by Getty Images via Daylife
US President Barak Obama has now praised the courage of Mir Hossein Mousavi in opposing the electoral fraud in Iran. Given the insanity in Iranian government circles one can’t be sure what is going to happen next. There is now horrific repression, people are being tortured , beaten and murdered by state security thugs. Iran is ruled by what looks like a nasty fascist clique which cares little for the fate of the people. State paranoia has reached new levels of insanity:
BBC NEWS: “US President Barack Obama has praised the opposition candidate in Iran’s disputed presidential election.
Mr Obama said Mir Hossein Mousavi had captured the imagination of groups in Iran that were interested in opening up to the world.
He spoke of the bravery of protesters in the face of “outrageous” violence.
Mr Obama’s comments came hours after foreign ministers from the G8 nations issued a statement “deploring” the post-election violence in Iran…”more

Netanyahu wants demilitarized PA state.

Jeruslaem Post: Binyamin Netanyahuhas now clarified his position on the issue of two states. The White House has rightly accepted the proposals. There appear to be early grumblings of opposition from the Palestinian leaders but they should grasp the opportunity for lasting peace, it is a fair proposal:
Herb Kelnon in The Jerusalem Post: Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu lifted the shroud from his diplomatic endgame on Sunday night, saying at the BESA Center at Bar-Ilan University that he would support a Palestinian state if he received international guarantees that it would be demilitarized, and if the Palestinians accepted Israel as the Jewish homeland.
“If we receive this guarantee regarding demilitarization and Israel’s security needs, and if the Palestinians recognize Israel as the state of the Jewish people, then we will be ready in a future peace agreement to reach a solution where a demilitarized Palestinian state exists alongside the Jewish state,” Netanyahu said to applause – the first time he has said he would accept a Palestinian state.
US President Barack Obama welcomed the prime minister’s speech, calling it an important step forward.
“The president is committed to two states, a Jewish State of Israel and an independent Palestine, in the historic homeland of both peoples,” White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs said in a statement. “He believes this solution can and must ensure both Israel’s security and the fulfillment of the Palestinians’ legitimate aspirations for a viable state, and he welcomes Prime Minister Netanyahu’s endorsement of that goal…”more
Charles Bremner – Times Online – WBLG: Obama dampens Sarkozy’s D-Day ambitions
- Image via Wikipedia
Interesting story from Charles Bremner in The Times in regard to President Obama’s relations with Nicolas Sarkozy and the friction caused by the failure by Sarkozy to invite Queen Elizabeth to the 65th anniversary of the D-Day landings:
THE TIMES: “Barack Obama is not doing anything to help Nicolas Sarkozy. Three days from the US leader’s arrival for his D-Day weekend, he is keeping his distance from the French president who was so eager to welcome him.
The White House‘s coolness has added to embarrassment at the Elysée Palace over the way they have bungled what Sarkozy wanted to be a supreme Franco-American moment in Paris and especially Normandy. The final straw for Paris was the White House’s undiplomatic public reproach this week to Sarkozy for failing to invite the British Queen to the 6th of June ceremony…”
President Barak Obama’s tribute to D-Day heroes
- Image via Wikipedia
Tributes were paid to the heroes of the D-Day Normandy landings on June 6, 1944 that eventually led to the defeat of nazi tyranny in Europe. President Barak Obama made a magnificent speech.
Let us remember Nazism is still with us here in our homeland and that we need to smash the Nazi scum in the anti-British BNP:
BBC NEWS: “Allied leaders have been paying tribute to veterans of D-Day, as they mark the 65th anniversary of the landings at a series of events in Normandy.US President Barack Obama said the bravery and selflessness of a few changed the course of a whole century. He was speaking alongside French, Canadian and UK leaders at the American cemetery near Omaha Beach, scene of fierce fighting on 6 June 1944.The Allies suffered 215,000 casualties on D-Day and in the Normandy campaign.Germany suffered similar losses as the Allies fought desperately up the beaches and into the French countryside to form a bridgehead…”

- The end of the beginning? December 2, 2019On the 10th November 1942 at the end of the Second Battle of El Alamein, and with Rommel’s Afrika Korps in retreat, Winston Churchill famously stated: “Now, this is not the end. It is not even the beginning of the end. But it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning.” Remembering those words reminded me of the current status of Brexit and the increasingly despe […]

- Eurozone: UK ready to back IMF bailouts November 2, 2011Britain is standing by to give more money to the IMF so that it can, in turn, lend more money to Eurozone countries like Greece, Italy or Spain who are struggling to service their debts. The government now believes, I'm told, that there are only three ways out of the current crisis - one they hope for, one they fear and a third they are ready to accept. […]
