Troops need more, says Army head

It is now clear that our Labour government and the beancounters have let our troops down; despite all that spin General Sir Richard Dannatt has made it clear more equipment is needed and he is handing in a shopping list. But the question arises, Operation Panther’s Claw must surely have taken some planning well ahead of the start of operations, how come it has taken so long for these issues to be aired? Is the Labour government entirely at fault? Does the blame really centre on the inner machine of the MOD and its bureaucrats, senior civil servants of the Ministry of Defence and the Treasury? How far did the beancounters succeed in restricting requests from the military chiefs for troops and equipment? Whatever has happened it is a disgrace. If the government commits our forces to war it has a duty to provide them with the equipment they need to do the job not eleven months after the commencement of operations.
