A new politics: People must have a direct say: Helena Kennedy.

Helena Kennedy writes in The Guardian A new politics: People must have a direct say that there ought to be a citizens convention and that we really can’t trust Gordon Brown in his proposed national council on democratic renewal. It does look as the days pass that there is no sincerity in setting up a national council on democratic renewal (a talking shop!), there are many in both the Labour party and Conservative party who do not want reform of any sort. Anyway surely, the government only needs to enact the recommendations of the Jenkins report of 1998. There is time to set up the new electoral system before the next general election in April/May next year.
