Alistair Graham: MPs’ expenses scandal has made faith in politics plummet


Alistair Graham has written a good article in The Guardian today:

ALISTAIR GRAHAM, THE GUARDIAN: “It has become all too clear that our representatives in parliament have adjusted the use of allowances to maximise their personal benefit. Some have taken advantage of the property market to receive a capital gain, which is clearly not acceptable…”

He raises two issues needing attention: firstly, the hiring of staff should be subject to normal equal opportunities practice and proper recruitment procedures; secondly, the need to abolish the £10,400 annual communications (propaganda) allowance.
