A Mai Mai leader has been convicted of crimes against humanity, some progress at least;

Human Rights Watch: (New York) – “The conviction of the Mai Mai commander Gédéon Kyungu Mutanga and 20 other Mai Mai combatants for crimes on major charges, including crimes against humanity, by a military court on March 5, 2009, was a crucial step toward creating accountability in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Human Rights Watch said today…”

FLNK – new group made up mainly of Congolese Mai Mai with some Rwandan Hutus formerly in the FDLR
FDLR – Hutu militia made up of former Rwandan soldiers and others who fled into Congo after the 1994 genocide
