BBC NEWS | Northern Ireland | Thousands attend murder protests

Images (BBC) On Saturday, sappers Mark Quinsey, 23, from Birmingham, and Patrick Azimkar, 21, from London, were shot at Massereene Army base, Antrim.  In Craigavon, County Armagh, Constable Stephen Paul Carroll was shot dead on Monday.

It is good to see thousands of citizens in Northern Ireland making a protest against recent terrorist killings in the province.  Belfast, Lisburn, Newry, Downpatrick and Londonderry were scenes of the main silent vigils and there is to be one at Craigavon.

Prime Minister, Gordon Brown “during prime minister’s questions he spoke of the “courage and dedication” of the security forces.

The prime minister also spoke of the protests planned in many towns and cities.

He said they showed the “defiance and determination” of people to “stand up to the evil of criminal violence”.
