Media Hysteria 1 – NHS Herefordshire P.C.T.

It seems it’s shock horror time for our dear darlings for the scribes at our British newspapers and their counterparts in TV news programmes. The target being court action regarding, a tragic story, of a thirteen year old girl who has chosen to accept her condition regarding her hole in the heart rather than accept an operation for heart replacement at her hospital.  On the surface this looks like a wonderful opportunity to poke fingers at the NHS in Herefordshire for being nasty, brutish and beastly against the wishes of a thirteen year old girl. In reality the Herefordshire P.C.T. did the right thing, they have a duty of care towards the child and therefore had to follow procedure, as the girl is still a minor and may not be making decisions as an adult might.

There is no doubt this is a very sad case and we admire the courage of Hannah Jones but whilst teeth might be knashing in those dark regions of anti-NHS sentiment which enjoys a little guffaw and promotes ridicule against the NHS we feel the Herefordshire P.C.T. should not be faulted.
