Lucky Dube murdered.

October 19, 2007 1 comment

Most people here in the UK would not have heard of Lucky Dube, the South African reggae music star. He brought much joy to many with his particular musical style and was indeed very popular in Zimbabwe. He produced 22 albums, sang in Zulu, English and Afrikaans.

Yesterday, at 8:20pm he was shot dead by car hijackers in Joburg. He will be missed, we hope the South African Police will apprehend the criminals soon.

Lucky Dube (1964 – 2007).

Euro constitution?

Gordon Brown proclaims red lines met, Great Britain has protected its national interest and and all is happy in the world of the European Union. The problem is so many of us have become cynical about the EU. It’s not just the Tory press, it’s a basic feeling that the EU has been mugging us taxpayers for years and that we get little in return but legislation. It is a vast social club of ministers, MEPS, a vast bureaucracy which has still not produced properly audited accounts. There is little doubt if British citizens got a referendum it would become an anti-EU manifestation hence the Euro brigade want to  at all costs avoid any referendum. There is a deep suspicion that we are being betrayed and we are surrendering power to Brussels.

If we, the Labour Party, had strength in our convictions we would hold the promised referendum, Ireland is doing so and we will find it difficult to continue to deny a referendum.  This is not about zenophobia, this is about trust and having promised a referendum we should deliver.
