Public sector pay…

Public sector pay…not long ago we wrote that the new government is being unfair in imposing a limit on pay increases, this signalled a return to old style Labour government when public sector pay restraint was a cardinal principal and the result was constant unrest and strikes; such policies play into the hands of extremist, militant union activists who have sympathies with the ultra left. We also wrote recently that Unison members should reject a strike ballot, as the local government workers were offered a good deal, even though it falls far short of inflation and the impact of rising interest rates. There is no contradiction. Given the strains on local government finance we cannot see how pay increases can be raised further, we must remember that the general public will not want to see any suffering caused by strikes.

At the same time we would urge government not to create circumstances where union militants in the public sector, these people have another agenda, will mindlessly cause disruption, chaos and suffering.
