One feels a torrent of anger when hearing government ministers who embrace the idea that we need to support Imperial China whatever happens: it’s the Saudi syndrome. we attach ourselves to despotic regimes and when those regimes come under international criticism our ministers react to defend reactionary regimes.
Tessa Jowell has already rushed to defend the Olympic games in Imperial China - the people of Darfur it seems don’t matter, last night on BBC TVs Any Questions it was the turn of Caroline Flint to rush to Imperial China’s aid.
Nobel Prize Winners led by Archbishop Desmond Tutu are right to call for an international boycott of the Olymbic games. It is a disgrace that the games are given to a despicable one party fascist state that ignores international opinion.
This is not only a matter of making a stand for the human rights of the people of Darfur it also a matter of human rights for the Chinese people, many of whom have and are suffering from the building projects for the games in Beijing.

So Tessa Jowell believes any Olympic boycott over Dafur would “be counter productive”. So she instead writes a nice letter to Imperial China’s president in Beijing. She feels offended that Nobel Prize winners, politicians and atheletes have called for an end to Imperialist China’s support for the government of Sudan and its campaign in the Darfur.
Tessa Jowell should understand that the imperial rulers in Beijing understand only one language and that is an Olympic boycott isolating the regime. What we don’t want is spineless politicians defending the undefendable.

Today sees the start of the Six Nations series and this afternoon; Ireland play Italy and later England will be playing Wales at Twickenham. This should be quite an interesting match as England Coach Brian Ashton has brought in some fresh blood including: Lesley Vainikolo (Gloucester) will be playing, 6′ 2″ and 17st 8lb should make quite a contribution.
Unfortunately, due to visiting family we won’t be able to view the games today but hopefully we will watch the video tomorrow.

It was pathetic to see some media hacks; especially the scribblers at The Sun who felt the England Manager’s post should have gone to an Englishman. Fact is, it is rather difficult to find a suitable person; Steve McClarren was good but he was undermined by sniping and lack of support. The selection of Fabio Capello for England Manager is probably a good move, he is bringing hs own management team and why not? Frankly, it is the most difficult job in the country since there are some 60 million+ other England football managers and the players are more concerned with their own image than the game. We wish him well and we are sure he is the right man for the job.
On a more positive note: it was good to see the support Watford football club , the hornets, supporters gave to Al Bangura who is fighting deportation to Sierra Leone, having lost his case at an Asylum and Immigration Tribunal hearing; the decision to deport him is unjust; he is a good role model for youth and he has played a constructive role in football, we hope he will succeed in overturning the decision made against him. He has a lot of support, including the local MP, Claire Ward and there is good reason to hope that Home Office officials will be persuaded to drop their plans for deportation.

So the English football team lose a match against Croatia, not because the Croatians were the better team but due to a poor coach! Today the tabloid hacks and others turn their hatred on to the FA bosses. The common held belief that there are deeper causes of the crisis in English football are disregarded, the players’ spoilt, wealthy lifestyles are overlooked. Steve McClaren will clearly walk away with a handsome pay off but was he just the fall guy, frankly, he did the best with what he had, he should not be blamed. Tabloid scum journos have now taken a more nasty course in using ageism against the FA bosses, no doubt the FA bosses do have some responsibility in regard to the mess in English football but why do we always think difficult issues can be resolved by resignations and do tabloid scum journos really have to get so unpleasant? The Croatian team clearly was the better team we have to accept that players have a responsibilty to do their best - but then it is only a game.

Last night’s semi-final match for the Rugby World Cup was magnificent. The England team put on a great performance winning 14 - 9. It was a very enjoyable game and we look forward to the final with the winners from tonight’s semi final.
On a another note we were quite disturbed by Andrew Marr’s suggestion on his TV programme this morning in which he implied rugby (union) was a Tory sport - no way Marr -never in your dreams it just shows you know less than you think. We also wonder why, Mr. Marr, do you always make seating space available on your programme for Carol Thatcher and her silly ideas?
