The current indecent campaign to oust Gordon Brown is led by pro Tory hack journalists who manipulate the news for their own particular agenda. What really matters is the current government economic policy which needs changing not the prime minister. We cannot imagine that Mr. Brown will do this but for the sake of the country and the Labour Party he would be wise to do so. We need an economic policy encouraging economic growth, low interest rates and withdrawal of a public sector pay freeze. To continue on the present course will result in disaster for Labour at the next general election.
Here we go again.
July 24, 2008The silly season approaches and so our TV screens begin to be filled with the latest images from Ethiopia of the starving, this time in Afar. Photo journalists and hacks now rush in obscene hast to film and interview these poor people for our TV screens. They did the same last year, the year before, 10 years before, 20 years ago and maybe 30 years ago. Of course this time next year we will be treated to this obscene annual heart wrenching display for our TV screens and ever after. Of course donations will poor in, as before, nothing changes, nothing will. What these hacks should do is go to Addis look for government ministers and officials and question them on their contribution to ending starvation and poverty in their country, then for once we all may learn something about problems relating to starvation and poverty in Africa.
Bloggers For Labour.
July 21, 2008It seems that Bloggers for Labour have deleted me from membership, so for whatever reason this is for as they haven’t had the courtesy to inform me I shall now delete the link for Bloggers for Labour from our site.
Youths, Gangs, Knives, Guns & Crime.
July 14, 2008We need to keep a sense of proportion, listnening to Sir Alan Steer on the flagship Radio 4 Today programme he quite rightly appealed to us and his interviewer Evan Davis to remember that the majority of children do not have behaviour problems, most children are sensible and repsonsible.
The pity is that the printed and electronic media fail to promote positive youth role models, many children and youths are involved in youth organizations and little is done by the media to recognze these positive role models. Instead we allow the media to promote images of youths engaged in bad behaviour, it becomes routine for BBC news programmmes to show repeated images as we saw yesterday of gangs of hoodies behaving badly thus creating a false image of how such behaviour is widespread.
We agree that there are youths and children engaged in regular bad behaviour, that some children and youths carry knives and these need to be dealt with. The police should be allowed to stop and search children or youths who may be carrying knives this however should not be just intelligence led, whatever that means, but should be random.
Government proposals to take those who carry knives to tour victims in hospital seem ridiculous headline grabbing spin, hopefully, someone will persuade the Home Secretary away from such mad cap schemes. There are sufficient powers available for the police to act and they should be allowed to do so in anyway they feel necessary.
We also believe it is time youth organizations should be encouraged and given more funds for publicity and facilities to expand. It would also help if the mass media calm down. behave with responsibility and promote positive role models and youth organizations.
The Ego of David Davis
July 11, 2008The man, David Davis, is a complete nutter, having put his constituents of Haltemprice and Howden through a phoney by-election for the sake of his own super ego. The man who thought 42 days to question terrorist suspects was too much and violated the principles of Magna Carta was nevetheless happy to support 28 days. This nutter wasted money on a phoney election merely to satisfy his personal ego. This by-election proved nothing except confirm its status as a safe Tory seat.
EARLY START FOR THE SILLY SEASON.
July 8, 2008Gordon Brown’s justified comments in regard to food waste were rightly highlighted on TV news channels but were accompanied usually by a silly woman and who the hell was she? She derided his attempts to raise the issue. The theme was developed later as descriptions by Channel 4 News at 7pm emphasized the scale of dinners at the G8 Summit. One would really like to see TV news presenters engage in serious debate rather than sniping.
We also treated to a variety of cynicism in regard to Anglo-Russian relations. Gordon Brown’s meeting with President Medvedev lasted twice as long as planned, good thing yes, but no the media hacks appear to have had glasses held to the walls and rapidly informed us the meeting was a failure. It’s amazing how these grub street journalists learn so much so quickly and are so quick to rubbish anything Gordon Brown does. Yes, we are told it was frank, one cannot on a first contact expect miracles but at least Mr. Brown made a determined attempt to repair relations.
The TV news media and its associated hacks have had a field day in regard to the Glasgow East by-election, granted the local Labour party are having a selection process problem but surely not a disaster, TV news hacks just seem to choose any opportunity to engage in petty, silly issues.
Homicides in Los Angeles.
February 24, 2008As we are treated to the gathering of stars, glitz and glamour of the Oscar ceremonies in Hollywood give some thought to the continuing carnage on the streets of Los Angeles. Recently, we entered an earlier posting on this subject. To today so far, since January 1st, 105 homicides have been recorded there may well be dozens more. The Los Angeles Times is recording incidents of homicide, stabbings, shootings, in the city, often gang related violence.
The victims tend to be Afro-American and Latino youths and sometimes White. These killings are draining the lifeblood of the city, youths who because of failure to find gainful employment and trapped in a cycle of poverty and drug culture, yet have we heard any real concerns from presidential candidates on how to tackle this hemorrhage of youths? Unfortunately, this subject seems to be escaping all presidential candidates, this blog just refers to L.A. and yet all major American cities witness similar events daily.
What is happening in the city of glitz, glamour and wealth is a tragedy and it is being added to everyday and yet outside the local community, the Los Angeles Police Department and the Los Angeles Times there is a deafening silence and ultimately a complete failure by all politicians to address this issue.
Red Roses Banned.
February 11, 2008Red Roses for Valentine’s Day has been banned by the sharia religious police in Saudi Arabia, that well known feudal, repressive state which we do shady deals with. Can we send them our current Archbishop of Canterbury so that they can educate him in regard to the advantages of islamic sharia law? Can we make a shady deal and exchange him for cheap oil?
A Troublesome Archbishop.
February 8, 2008The Archbishop of Canterbury always gives the impression of being a tortured soul and none moreso this morning. His recent comments that elements of islamic sharia law being acceptable in modern day UK has caused a great deal of knashing of teeth and unsurpassed response and display of horror and anger not seen for years in the popular press, and on radio and tv programmes.
The reality is as we all know that sharia law courst are not fonts of wisdom especially in regard to women. They appear to be male dominated preserves and women are clearly under islam second class
59…
February 4, 200859… this figure represents the number of homicides in Los Angeles County since January 1st 2008. The Los Angeles Times web site has a daily blog edited by Jill Leovy an LA Times staff writer, she has since January 1st 2007 been logging each homicide, day by day, in the county. In 2007 some 1000+ people were victims of stabbings and shootings; drive by shootings; gang related violence, family disputes the list seems endless. Children as young as 6 have been killed, children aged 15, or 17: children that haven’t lived. Many are young Latinos many more young Blacks.
This is happening in one of the wealthiest communities in the USA, where pockets of poverty and hopelessness exist, where access to guns is easy and there use is easy,
These statistics are horrifying, appalling, the LAPD and local sheriffs can hardly keep up with the rate of killings, though they claim a 39% clear up rate following last years homicides.
These events are a cold reminder that dealing with serious youth crime is a serious matter, poverty matters, hopelessness matters, we will not resolve these problems with lunatic ideas held by people like Lord (moron) Tebbit, guns must be eliminated from society, no one needs them only the police need access to them.
We need government, at local and national levels to deal with real issues, positive measures to build employment, counter the hopelessness and poverty that exists in our major urban centres. We also need to see real investment in youth; provision of youth clubs; shut down gun clubs and make them youth centres; provide sporting activities etc so that boredom can be dealt with. We also need harsh measures against drug use.
