Cars, Cars and yet more Cars!

December 21, 2008 zebrambizi Leave a comment

The current crisis hitting the car industry is indeed serious. There is some debate as to whether the government should or should not make money available for rescue after all the government has given the banks considerable sums of money despite the fact that bankers bear the responsibility for causing the economic crisis we are in and have wrecked the economy.

Our TV screens recently showed huge car parks of unsold cars and we all know our local garages equally cannot sell cars except for the few.

Jaguar and Land Rover serve a particular community mostly wealthy people home and abroad. These vehicles are wasteful, gas guzzling vehicles. Should a Labour government be investing in vehicles meant for the rich and are wasteful on fuel?

We should also consider that the Indian company, Tata, bought Jaguar and Land Rover this year when it was already known the market for selling cars was going to plummet, now they present us with a begging bowl.

There are thousands of jobs at stake people with useful skills face unemployment and communities no doubt will be hit if the factory closes.

We need a strategy; if a Labour government is to rescue this company it must obtain a majority stake in the company and the company must redesign its vehicles so that future production will be based on fuel efficient vehicles. We should be producing cars that are green and move away from oil based fuel.

If a Labour government can do this I would be all in favour of rescuing Jaguar and Land Rover and any other British based car manufacturer based on the same formula.

We cannot go on producing cars that are the same old, same old, we need new vehicles that are energy efficient and run on non oil based fuels.

Mugabe Must GO!

Mugabe must go!  Mugabe is the author of the disaster facing Zimbabwe.  The cholera outbreak which has already claimed hundreds of lives is due to his and his ruling party, Zanu PFs corruption.   The prime minister of Kenya, Raila Odinga has called for him to go other African leaders have added their voice and it is time that the Southern African Development Community (SADC) woke up and added serious pressure including military action to force Mugabe to resign and allow a new MDC led government to take office.   The Zimbabwean economy has collapsed; the local currency is totally worthless; the health service has collapsed; the education system has collapsed; local utilities, water supply and sewerage systems have collapsed.

Keynesianism is the answer.

Keynesianism is the answer to our present economic crisis.  We can recall the disaster the ideas of Milton Friedman and his monetarist theories when Great Britain was used by the Thatcher regime as an monetarist  experiment.  Then the Tories led us into the spiv economy and mass unemployment.  What we need is a healthy dose of Keynesianism to boost the economy.  The stimulus package promoted by our government is the beginning of economic recovery

The concerns about borrowing should not cause alarm, there is every possibility we can recover quickly and as a new prosperous Great Britain emerges so we can be in a strong position to repay borrowing, the Tories cannot respond to this economic crisis, their policy will lead to higher unemployment , we have been there before we know what Tory policy will lead to.

Tax the Rich.

We are rather surprised at the publicity this morning that the chancellor is going to introduce 45p in the £ tax rate for the rich. We are even more surprised that apparently this will be introduced after the next general election; we are puzzled why it is not being introduced now. It is time spivs and the super rich paid higher taxes, still, we suppose it gives accountants plenty of time to figure tax dodging schemes for their super rich friends.

We Need to Act on the Economy.

We welcome the initiative of the government to rescue the economy.  This economic crisis began in the USA, despite the Tories fooling themselves otherwise. We need a dose of Keynesianism. We learnt from the 1930s what happens if you do nothing but allow the recession to run its course which is current Tory policy, The Tories have no more idea than the Tories of the 1930s.  We look forward to hearing Alistair Darling’s Pre-Budget Report.  The economy needs a boost, tax cuts would clearly be helpful. Public works schemes would also help to enable employment to grow. Yes, of course borrowing has to be paid for and taxes may rise in future years but far better to act now than sitting twiddling fingers which of course is Tory policy.

Tories Plan Spending Cuts.

November 18, 2008 zebrambizi 1 comment

Now at last the “compassionate” Tories have admitted that they will introduce public spending cuts if they gain power.  We knew that the Tories won’t change and that their infantile leader, David Cameron, would back cuts in spending on the NHS and Education.  They care little for the working families their only friends are in big business and the spivs. they have no idea on what caused the economic crisis and have no plans to offer to deal with it. Their tactics reveal desperation, hopefully, the voting public will realize that Tories are Tories and they never change.  The Labour government’s programme of fiscal stimulus is the right policy for the country, we can afford to borrow and Great Britain is a wealthy country.

Gordon Brown’s Success.

Whilst the Tories engage in negative, infantile tactics, Gordon Brown has succeeded in winning over the G20 Summit to a policy of growth and reform of the international financial system.  Gordon Brown’s economic strategy for British economic recovery is a positive step forward. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the government borrowing to finance economic projects, Great Britain is a wealthy country and will recover quickly from the current crisis.  The Tories have no policy to deal with the current crisis and resort only to childish sniping against Gordon Brown and running the country down.

Gordon Brown More Confident.

November 6, 2008 zebrambizi 1 comment

Yesterday’s PMQs showed a Gordon Brown now far more confident and beginning to takes PMQs in his stride and getting the better of the infantile Tory leader, David Cameron. Cameron’s claim of his noviceness is shared with President- Elect Barak Obama was rather wishful thinking as Barak Obama’s agenda is closer to that of the Labour Party and he has far greater experience than Cameron can ever have.

The important issue is that Gordon Brown is now settling in to PMQs and is handling the sessions very well. He has reacted quickly to helping to resolve the current economic crisis, there are going to e difficult days ahead.   We need policies to promote economic growth and employment.

The Tories have No Answers.

The poverty of ideas from the Tory front bench team is astonishing; they have no answers to our current economic crisis – except for tax cuts – no doubt favouring the wealthy and big corporations. David Cameron turns PMQs into a sniping session; schoolboy Bullingdon club tactics; he promotes a Punch & Judy game show; he can only deliver insults and absolutely no ideas as to how our country will master and overcome this crisis.  David Cameron is unfit to be to be a future prime minister, his infantile antics expose his shallowness. We know he and his team would prefer to deny public services the vital funding they need; they oppose schemes for creating jobs; they oppose borrowing to help get the country on an even economic keel.  They oppose Keynesian economics, even Norman Lamont, the man responsible for the crash of 1992; 18% interest rates; is insulting Gordon Brown in a Daily Telegraph article today, claiming Gordon Brown knows little about Keynes’s ideas.  The general voting public; according to the latest poll results; is slowly waking up to the sham that Cameron and his front bench team are.  The best man to see us through this crisis is Gordon Brown. Only a Labour government can ensure our public services are updated and funded and counter unemployment. To echo Mrs Thatcher: “there is no alternative”.

Whingers & Moaners Galore.

The current economic crisis is not the fault of the UK government, yet for some obscure reason many people seem so stupid as to lay the blame for our current economic woes on the Labour government.

Whingers and moaners  are too ready to blame government rather than the real culprits responsible for the current crisis. Current inflation is being generated by profit driven energy companies and the shambles created by speculative bankers and financial traders.

We would agree that our government is failing to realize that its economic policy is in error: we should be encouraging: economic  growth; low interest rates; high employment; a high wage economy. We seem to be responding with old fashioned economic thought. Mervyn King, the boss at the Bank of England, does not have the answers, his policy is leading us into economic disaster. We would appeal to the prime minister to change course now.
