David Cameron, I am beginning to think we are underestimating his abilities and impact, as indeed, I believe is the Labour Party. Having recorded and viewed his major speech and noting his style of delivery I can only say it was impressive. Delivered without visual aids he was able to highlight key features of policy and focus on weaknesses in policy of the Labour government. Clearly, the pensions issue is our achilles heel - we have not delivered on pensions including the resentment felt by Gordon Brown’s “raid” on the pension funds and failure to offer tangible help to those who have lost pensions. This is an issue that Labour policy chiefs should tackle and must come up with an answer and a revision of policy.
Whilst we may treat Cameron’s Tories as insincere in regard to the NHS and public education, he is clearly motivated by his own experience and that alone will inspire many voters. His statements on defence and the issue of the covenant with service personnel is another policy area ignored by Labour minisers and policy makers. Unless Labour comes up with sound counter arguments and more importantly seen to do as required we may lose the next general election.
It is simply childish to continue any campaign based on Dave the chameleon. We need to adopt changes to policy now and its effects must be immediate. Any future Labour election campaign will need a radical programme designed to inspire the voters. We must also treat David Cameron more seriously.
