Zimbabwe Vigil Events

* Thursday, 29th March, 2 pm – join Free-Zim Youth to lobby the Angolan government following reports that it is to send para-military police to beef up Mugabe’s security forces (meet Baker Street tube station).

* Saturday, 31st March, 2 – 6 pm – Special Vigil outside the Zimbabwe Embassy, London, in solidarity with victims of political violence in Zimbabwe.

* Saturday, 31st March – 11 am - 3 pm. The Bristol Vigil meets under the covered way, just near the Watershed, Canon’s Road, Harbourside.

* Wednesday, 4th April, 12 – 2 pm – join ACTSA and the Trades Union Congress for a demonstration outside the Zimbabwe Embassy in solidarity with the Zimbabwe Congress of Trade Unions who have called a general strike for 3rd and 4th April.

Zimbabwe Rally for Dignity

Zimbabwe Rally for Dignity - Trafalgar Square - Last Reminder

Be in Trafalgar Square from 1 – 4 pm on Saturday, 10^th March to support the big rally planned by ACTSA (Action for Southern Africa, the successor to the Anti-Apartheid Movement) and supported by British Trade Unions.  The rally marks international women’s day and has a particular focus is on women in Zimbabwe – wives, mothers, sisters and daughters to us all. Their plight symbolises the plight of all in Zimbabwe.  We need to make the event truly Zimbabwean. It is an opportunity to thrust the Zimbabwean tragedy before the eyes of the world. We don’t want Mugabe to portray this as a British protest – he needs to feel the anger of all the displaced Zimbabweans in the diaspora. 

It is very encouraging that organisations such as ACTSA and British trade unions have embraced our cause and we should do everything we can to support them.  They can call on a wide range of support and we can really add to the numbers - tell everyone you know to come and to come on time.  We understand from ACTSA that the British and other media will be well-represented so it will be a really good opportunity to show the strength of Zimbabweans in the UK diaspora.

The Vigil will be manned during the rally and we look forward to seeing you all when the rally is over. 

Vigil co-ordinators

The Vigil, outside the Zimbabwe Embassy, 429 Strand, London, takes place every Saturday from 14.00 to 18.00 to protest against gross violations of human rights by the current regime in Zimbabwe. The Vigil which started in October 2002 will continue until internationally-monitored, free and fair elections are held in Zimbabwe. http://www.zimvigil.co.uk

First concerns

A new departure for me: I’ve decided to completly begin anew, to set up a new blog and consign the old to the waste bin.

This blog will illustrate my concerns, these being developments in political affairs and items of a more general nature.

An explanation the name of this blog: Zebra Mbizi - zebra of course is the English name for the marvellous animal we all know, mbizi is the chi-Shona word for zebra. Shona in its various dialects is one of the main languages of Zimbabwe. This leads me to inform readers that I shall also be writing my views and reporting developments in the struggle against the dictatorship of Mugabe and Zanu PF and hopefully make a little contribution to its downfall.
